I'm trying to get the "glass" effect

you may aleady know this,
send me the PSD i will try to post some screenshot here.
all u hv to do is ctrl+left click on the rectangular layer's thumbnail in layers pallet u made, then you will see a selection appears. then, create a new layer above it, select the rectangular Marquee (M) tool, keep Alt pressed, now select half of the selection from the lower part. it will deselect that part. now, grab the gradient tool, choose foreground to transparent , make white your foreground, now, move the cursor little above the selection, press shift, keep it pressed and make a gradient to downward.

okay, here we go.

first, open the template (PSD) in PS, now there is a layer named Shape !, Press Ctrl+Mouse Left click on its thumbnail in layers pallet, like this one-



then, create a new layer just above it, choose Rectangular marquee (M) tool, keep alt pressed and make a selection from bottom to the niddle od the selection.


you will see that the selected area is subtracted from the main selection, now set foreground color as white, choose Gradient tool (G), elect foreground to transparent like in this image-


now, place the cursor a few pixels above from the selection, keep shift pressed, it will straighten the line, now make a gradient like hown by the red arrow


now, you will see something like this-



do the same to the bottom too, but in shorter selection, you may get something like this-


experiment, you may finally accomplish desired design.

i might try my paw in making a signature, i asked bro snakey to share a few of his secrets with me and he advised me to get 3 applications, one of them the PaintShop.
