download PC Wizard 2008, it is the best hardware anylaising tool there is availble today, and it is completly free
also a very popular bencharking tool, and from same company (CPUID) as the famous CPU-Z, which you can also use to find information about your systems SPD (memory)
PC Wizard 2008 Direct download link
HomePage for more information on the software
select main board, then copy info into your next post, and i be able too tell you exactly what ram will and will not work in your motherboard

ok, so you got a p4 board, is your PC a HP
(hewlett packard) ive found spec sheet for your board, (neon1 series) and it says max memory you can have is 1gb, and same for the v4 neon2 series which is kinda dumb.. anyway, how much ram have you got installed in your PC now, i presume it is a HP factory desktop computer am i right?
well, your board has 2x 2 DDR-DIMM memory sockets, which means you can put a maximum of 512mb sticks in each socket.. and the speed of ram you need would be PC 2700, even tho higher speed ram would probly work, your board wont be able to utilize it, and probally even run it slower as a result, and cost you more money..
tell me the name and speed and timings of the ram stick/s you currently have installed on your board please.. you can get this information with same program.. pc wiz 2008...
This is the spec sheet for the neon socket 478 Intel i845 chipsets

ok yes, so you have currently 2 slots for ram mudules, and you have installed 1 256mb ram stick..
i would recomend to get rid of this module, and get yourself 2 512mb sticks of pc2700 memory..

hello marty3
i have about the same question but for "v4 neon2 series"
you wrote
"ive found spec sheet for your board, (neon1 series) and it says max memory you can have is 1gb, and same for the v4 neon2 series which is kinda dumb.. anyway, how much ram have you got installed in your PC now."
what do you mean with "which ist kinda dumb"?
do you mean those who wrote that are wrong for the V4 neon2 or is it just kind of a pitty the way ist is. of course with my computer i would like to go for 2GB if possible, but i would like to avoid a false buy. should i take the risk anyway (not very expensive, but anyway).
these are the specs for my pc:

what do you think - is hp right about their specification with 1GB max?
cheers
