Well I do not like the N8 because it lacks something really important to me: the qwerty keyboard.
And also, there's the price factor: I would change my N97 for a N900 with a lower difference in cash (aprox 100eur) that for a N8 (toward 200 eur).
And to tell you the truth, I don't care about the size either. Sure, it'll bug me the first couple of days because I'd feel my pocket a bit... heavier
, but I will get used to it quickly.
A quick question though: can it dial USSD codes (*123# for instance, to check my balance)? I've read that it doesn't have this ability but most of the reviews online are with the first FW and I know the device is now at PR 1.3.

N900 needs to install an app to use USSD.
And if you really want N900, my tip is to upgrade it to PR1.3 at first boot. Dont hesitate, dont install a single app, just do it.
Also, if you dont want N8 because of no keyboard, E7 is a good alternative. It has a huge screen and better screen, and of course a keyboard. (ClearBlack AMOLED + 4" for the screen, which is pwnage)
The price of that thing will go down in some months, and so will N8.
When are you planning to buy a new phone?

Well I plan on changing it really soon because along with the price of the new devices going down, the price of my N97 will go down 2x faster.
And yes, the E7 is a nice alternative because it's everything the N97 should've been in the first place, but it will cost a lot. Too much.
And of course, should I buy the N900, the first thing I'll do is update to PR1.3 . Especially since I've read it's a full flash only install (no OTA).
To tell you the truth, the more I read and search about the N900, the more I'm decided to buying in as soon as possible. As I said above, I found a N900 used for 6 months, but impeccable and with 18 months of warranty left, and the user agrees to making a switch with my N97 and a difference of 80-90 euros. Which is, IMO, great !
BTW, wasn't the USSD fixed in PR1.2? (I've found a PR1.2 changelog and it said FIXED-CLOSED).

Closed can mean not going to be fixed. However, I'm not really into the bug-trackers.
AFAIK, you have to get an app in order to use USSD.

It's not a big problem anyway. As long as there is an app for any "bug", it's fine by me.

That's pretty much what N900 stands for...
You can download an app to make it faster, you can download an app to get MMS, you can download an app to get Google Voice, you can download an app to get MSN, yeah. Lots...

I think I'll be very pleased with this device. Hope to get it before Christmas. It'll be like a present I got for myself.

Have you worked with Linux before?
Its a good benefit before starting to use N900. N900 was the first full-time device i have used that runs Linux. I didn't know how to use Xterm, but now i can write interactive scripts. I even made a converter to use when i don't have a computer available.
(It copies the audio to a .m4a-file.)
Because if you go for N900, you should get used to Xterm. If not, you'll be in a tight squeeze if a problem occurs. But if you know how to use Xterm, an issue is nothing.
Its actually quite fun. And if you want to get N900, get an SSH-client and SCP-client for your computer, as well. They're very handy, I tell you.

To tell you the truth, I've never used LINUX, but I know about the X-Terminal and I plan on using it for things that need to get done.
From what I've seen, if I want to activate the dev-level apps in the App Manager I have to use X-terminal. If I want to install WebOS games, I have to use X-terminal.
So, I'll have to use it. So I'll learn the language. I fancy myself for being techy enough, so this'll be a chance to prove myself once again.

The seller/buyer didn't like that the silver from my N97's body is a bit worn off. He said he'll think about it... So it seems my N900 journey did not begin today.
At least I got a chance to surf thorough the menu and stuff and I have to say I am very impressed. The touchscreen is very responsive (probably because the phone is very powerful).
It was such a pity seeing this particular N900 because the user said he does not use it, as he finds is too difficult. The SW was old, the screens were more empty than full... Oh well, I hope he'll decide soon.
I blame Nokia for this. If this had sprayed the body of the N97 with a more durable and higher-quality silver spray, it would not have worn off by using their original CP-382 pouch!
