I know it's offtopic here, but seeing that even Quake II can be ported to S60, maybe there's some way making a proper port of Duke Nukem 3d :?: That would be so cool, I think I'd lock myself somewhere to play all the episodes on my N95

here you go bro :D

What is P.I.P.S.?

Image

P.I.P.S. Is POSIX on Symbian OS. POSIX libraries on Symbian OS significantly reduces the effort required to migrate existing desktop and server components, and mobile applications from other platforms, onto Symbian OS.

POSIX or Portable Operating System Interface for UNIX is a set of software standards specified by the IEEE that allows applications to be written to a single target environment in which they can run unchanged on a variety of systems. (Source: wikipedia)

What is Maps (.PAK ) ?

A .PAK file acts like a .ZIP archive, it contains many different files within the archive, and can be accessed via the game it is associated with. Files within the archive are often read only. Note: .PAK files are used with many different Quake Engine games. ....

Big thank you to Hinkka ? I now have Quake 2 on my N95-1.

I had to upgrade to new v21 firmware (involved some messy debranding), find my old Quake 2 cd, play about with the PAK files, delete the config.cfg file that I copied from my computer when I shouldn?t have and endure a restart of the phone and 42 seconds (I counted) of black screen before I can play ? but its worth it to play Quake 2 on the train!

The instructions on http://koti.mbnet.fi/hinkka/installation.html saw me thru.

If you have the N95 leave the video settings on Software - do NOT try OpenGL. It seems to ubiquitously crash since it need more free ram than the N95-1 has going.

If it is not working, try:
- Check you have copied the ?baseq2? folder from the Quake 2 cd or demo install (ftp://ftp.idsoftware.com/idstuff/quake2 ... mo-x86.exe) to a quake2 folder on the root of your memory card.

- Install PIPS and Quake 2 for your phone from http://koti.mbnet.fi/hinkka/Download.html

- Change phone language to English

- Delete the E:\quake2\baseq2\config.cfg file

- Restart phone, run Quake 2, wait one (full) minute and press right soft key.

If you still have nothing, read E:\quake2\q2log.txt and see at the bottom of the file why it crashed.

Question for others running Quake2: how long does it take for you to load up Quake 2 and change levels? That long blank screen can get annoying? How often is it crashing for you guys?

How big are the PAK files you use? The demo seemed to crash just as much as the full version for me.

Also - if you do set OpenGL and its crashing, you can delete the config.cfg to get back to default.

Helllo ohinkka,

do you work on a port from Quake3 to S60?

Thanks for Quake and QuakeII.
This two are the best games ever seen on S60.

It seems, that Quake 2 are often crashing at level transistion with error:

"recursive shutdown
Error: HunkAlloc
overflow"
