Another video, quite boring and with no sound but otherwise showcasing nicely the capabilities of N900.

Anyway before both of your childish way goes on. I though of posting this (It was supposed to be posted since n900 leaked):
I didn't review or did any more working on the following post. (Just take the ideas)
Ok I am not going to introduce myself or anything.
For god-sake you all here are calling yourselves "Symbian-Freak" although Bartulovic registered maemo-freak.
Let me try to answer this type of complaining "I am gona suicide! n97 is totally been crushed by n900!" n900 is maemo , n97 is symbian. Be happy you are able to run Symbian programs under n97 where you can't under n900.
Lets move into clearning maemo releated stuff (programs/developing/etc ...)
For new comers to maemo , I say welcome
First thing you should know about maemo is semi-open sourced (Although I am sure at maemo 5 stage it achieved to open source more of its own parts/rewritten others *GSM part is still questionable*) Maemo is simply using Linux kernel/Debian/Gnome and you can go and consider it open source.
For those of you who are aware of linux distros ,you will know they get some cool names for their distros and Maemo is no exception. Maemo 5 is called Fremantle (Consider it as S60v2, S60v3, somehow)and the upcoming OS is called Harmattan which going to be based on QT (Fremantle based on GTK+)
Office:
if you are sick of quickoffice and the limitation of symbian GUI programs, you can try to use OpenOffice writer which is the same as the one you are using with your computer.
Bluetooth:
Maemo is using bluez , So NO you won't be limit to a few functions of bluetooth or you can't send or receive files (like someone said here) (In my opinion you can do much more with bluez than symbian's bluetooth application) like viewing raw HCI data and so on...
Twitter:
Those who are interested in services such as twitter , you can go an try Mauku 2.0
Games:
I am not going to talk more about this ,but I feel majority of symbian users won't like maemo games. (More of ports/less commercial)
Mono/Net framworks:
I felt that I should mention. you can run programs (C#/VB.net programs) with exceptions to the ones which uses windows API's)
Radio:
At the time when n900 released It won't have any Radio Application (The hardware part is exist), so nokia will be depending on the community for providing the application.
MMS:
No MMS , Sorry.
OS part:
Thanks goodness you aren't limited as you were with Symbian devices to one OS. You can flash your device with a newer OS (For old devices it may require hacking). You are also not limited by using the official Maemo build from Nokia. You can go and try Android. The best part for KDE fan is being able to use. Usually some recoding would be needed but you can get your os running ,but not windows (ARM reason).
[pictures / video to be included]
(Search youtube/google - I don't have time for this)
Swap (RAM):
Don't tell me you never heard about swap, if you just like the idea of 1 GB RAM then you can have 30GB swap (Virtual RAM) on the device. This even include the rest of Internet Tablets. what matters here RAM is faster than harddisk (RAM>Flash>HDD).
Openness:
Maemo is more opened than Symbian. No symbian sign and no hasel at all. get your program compiled and then feel free to execute it. Gaining access is piece of cake.
Developers base:
Developers are existed for Maemo, and they are more likely to port linux programs into maemo, Overall porting programs from linux to Maemo is easier than going the same route for symbian.
Ports:
In responding about Maemo programs, Porting with maemo is really a pleasure & easy thing (depends on the program itself), porting linux program where the source code available and depends can be ressolved on Maemo, with just few lines modifying will get your program running under maemo, however usually porting program should mean giving it the same UI as normal maemo programs which might take an extra work , but never the less it an easy task and much more fun.
I feel these things you need to know about maemo before you change your train.
Maemo is more around the community, Maemo is considered hackers/programmers gadget pick. What this means to you, don't except a smooth device with zero hasle and ready to use device (It still easy and Nokia/maemo tries their best to deliver the best of what they could), but be sure you will play config files to customize it the way you like. Unless you are happy with what you can get then you find any problem with that (Linux users will feel more in home)
This device is meant for power-users (Whom can accept handling some problems by their own), if you can't bear it then symbian is better for you. It had alots of enhancement and more stable. For those of you and before considering yourself a power user, 1% of the less than the half of whom are here I might go and consider them power users but the rest of you , NO (Sorry ,but thats the truth). However if you didn't destroy something or made a mistake you wont learn and will stay in your same place. To get yourself ready I suggest installing Linux and get ready ,if you need any help with linux (We as a community) we'd be happy to help ,but make sure you google & read first. You can neglect the last step if you just going to use it for listening to music/smsing and that kind of stuff.
----------------------
Out of that, Seriously Ganxta (PMing is more professional than your method).
Teo: Get Pro in blogging way. I am following this site since the beginning and even Symbian before it. I can see the mistakes and typos you do (You looks like you do it all by hand) for maemo part get a real blogging script and separate it than the main symbian-freak + share the same forum would do it.
Anyway a lots of what Ganxta mentioned is true take a look into it to improve yourself. Although I disagree on few of his points but this isn't the place to discuss it.
nice! i dunno why the iphone fanboys still think the iphone is better. its not fun gaming on touch
If its worth doing, its worth overdoing!!!

Actually, that's not a maemo store. Everything in the repositories (If you've used linux beore) is absolutely free. All of those hundreds of apps are free for you to use and games to play with. That's the power of an open source communityarchaen wrote:He is showing downlodable games from "maemo store"(this is gonna be ovi store when n900 is released) online. Time 6:50.
Before that he is showing apps that are already installed on that particular device.

Yes you are right, did?nt know what to call it, thats why i had the "".
However guys at nokia said that all the apps are going to be available via the ovi store, question is if it?s going to be free then too?
If a company develops an application for maemo5 and then upload it to ovi store, can?t they still charge it for you? Or is all apps free from the beginning?

Yea, the Ovi Store will be the main distributor for paid content. It will also have some free content like the current ovi store does for s60. You will also still be able to use the repositories to install free apps mainly because the open source community will release their stuff there.archaen wrote:gsmyoda wrote:Actually, that's not a maemo store.
