SF exagerated warez-o-phobia.
U don't like something around here!?!

Recently I posted some article about how to install an abandonware game (Little Big Adventure) that can't be found in the repositories in Maemo/games.
Yes, I posted abandonware because the copyright laws are stupid and because I didn't thought distributing it freely since you can't buy it @ the copyright owners don't exist anymore would make it illegal.
I know that I may exaggerate when I say the mods on this site have an almost sick pleasure of removing anything ware-like from the boards but you guys are really overdoing it.
Ok, I get it, I posted a "ware" for which no one would have even asked for removal/prosecuted/cared/downloaded/or even played (boring game in my opinion).
As the beattles say, let it be... until today when I ran int the RA1 topic on the .org which is also abandonware.
Now I don't say we should allow warez, but is it really necessary to delete MY WORK without a warning?
First of all the post contained VALUABLE INFORMATION FOR ANYONE GETTING TO KNOW MAEMO and second, couldn't you just deleted the link to the game?

Ok since it was me that dealt with this I should respond, the warning was there, I said I was looking into abandonware, and as the wiki page states, abaondonware is illegal to share, so in my opinion, it should not be on this forum.

Yes but the .org have their tutorials too on abandonware and although they don't directly link to the software they say it can be found on various abandonware sites...

Ok lets look at some facts and then make a kind of comparison....
To share abandonware is illegal
To crack a copyrighted app is illegal
To post warez is illegal
So, the fact that the .org site posts tutorials about abandonware but doesnt post links is beside the point, we're talkin about sf here, I mean we dont post tutorials on how to crack apps without linking to the apps do we? And because of the legalities around abandonware I feel its the same case, in the rules we say that illegal content is not allowed, including the discussion of such content, abondonware is illegal, so its against the rules.

Now don't ban me here but there's an actual link to a warez site in the tutorial, broken, however.
That site is publicly endorsed by nokia and that is a game that even if abandoned, is still owned by EA games the tyrant...
Don't know what else I could say but I think replacing the faulty link with "you have to copy LBA_data from your original LBA cd" would have sufficed.

I'll say this once more Bec, we are not maemo.org, we are Symbian Freak, an independant forum with our own rules. So dont compare the two forums, the topic of this thread is the fact that you think that its wrong of us to think abandonware shouldnt be here. But the main point is, for one last time, Abandonware is Illegal, doesnt mattter whether other sites allow it or not!

maemo = nokia = someone who can get in real legal trouble.
we = independent community = SF = removing the link would have been enough.
It's not like discussing a book with a dead/alive author is illegal anywhere... unless we start calling it censorship.
