I've been using it for the past 3 days and I just wanted to share my enthusiasm with you guys!
Since I come from an N95, watching videos in this high resolution screen is simple marvellous, and the whole experience is better. It's my very first touch screen device, so I'm in no position to talk about screen sensitiveness, but I find it to be alot more responsive than I was expecting, even the on screen keyboard is very usable and responsive. The physical keyboard is very good, and when the device is flip open, it makes it look like a mini laptop or something, it's amazing. And I'm not even going to start talking about the web browser, just to summarize: "The best I could ever think of."
The customizability of this device is what really makes it shine! An exemple: when I was starting to experience typing with the keyboard, I came across a big problem, the lack of especial caracteries used here in Brazil (like "é" "ã" "ç") so I needed to change the layout, but the 4 arrows in the right side are very important too, so I needed to go through the menu to change the layout every time. Guess what happened next. After 10min google search I came across this small .deb applet made by a nice guy over maemo.org, that allowed me to change the keyboard layout from anywhere in the device with only 2 clicks. Now that's amazing!
Another thing I was afraid of was to leave the apps that I grow used in symbian. One of this apps that I would mostly miss was JoikuSpot, but then again I was stunned to know that it was already in works, and expected to be made available this month. Some time later and "mission acomplished", I have joikuspot installed on my N900 (still in beta though). And as a plus, the interface is alot more pretty than that on my N95. This actualy happens alot more than I expected, and overall the apps looks more polished and better looking than the ones I used to have on my N95.
By the way, there are some simple things that makes me like this device even more. The bluetooth for instance. It simple asks me where I want to save the files, it's so silly but on the N95 the files always came as text messages, and I couldn't handle them, only open them (if it was a defaut supported format). The onboard memory also makes me smile, since on the N95 it had a slow 0.8MB/s read/write speed, now it's ~5.5MB/s write and ~12MB/s read, it feels like 10x faster!
The bad things on the other hand... I can state at least three that mostly annoys me: the battery (oh yes the battery!), the video player and the speakers. The latter is not actualy a problem, since they sound very good but they definitively could be better, and wasn't an improvement over my N95. They are also very low.
The bottom line is that I'm having alot of fun with my N900, as many people said "it's still a work in progress", but nevertheless it's a fantastic experience and I'm very happy. Guess I'll spread the N900's word here in Brasil, and maybe get some followers!
Thanks to everyone on my favorite community that gave me a bit of attention!!!
