cashclientel wrote:I just wanted to say that I've had quite a good look at this and concluded that adding extra levels beyond what can already be purchased for the N900 is not possible as they feature extra functionality that requires an engine update. Since the iPhone executable is a compiled binary there is no way to port this to the N900. Thus this whole topic is actually a dead end.

Has anyone tried to port the iPhone Angry Birds levels to the N900?
I won't link, but it is possible to find the .ipa file for the iPhone version online (i.e. buy it from iTunes!). .ipa are just zip archives, so rename and open in winzip.
All of the internals seem to be based around .lua files on about Angry Birds v1.1 on the N900 and v2.1 on the iPhone.
Assuming the engine/executable is the same between both, one should be able to copy over the files and unlock the functionality?
As a test I copied the levels from the iPhone for worlds 2 and 3 and replaced them on the N900 - this worked.
When I've got some time I'll work on copying over the rest and seeing what I can get working.
Anyone else who's a bit quicker on the shell will probably be able to do this in 10 spare minutes - so let me know if you are interested and I can post more details.
Re: legalities - apologies if this post is in contravention of the forum policies.

Not really sure if this is legal, since you would technicaly cracking an app that is not freeware to run on the n900?
We've had a similar case a while back and the member received a warning for it. Lets see what Setter and the team say

Ok, thanks Snakey.

For what it's worth - by doing these steps you would be violating the terms of use agreement. I don't see it as piracy or copyright infringement just to talk about it - but then I'm not sure on where these servers are hosted and the applicable laws.

A point to think about: The discussion of the "open source" game engines and emulators (DrNokSNES, SCUMM, Jazz Jack Rabbit, Hexen, Quake III, etc) require you to rip game files from one platform and play them on another. This will be violating the terms of use in the same way. I see this as being the same as what is being discussed here.

That said, I don't really want to have a debate about it, so if the site has a policy of steering well clear of any grey areas then I understand.

@ROLAN900D

If you buy the Angry Birds on both platforms (iPhone and N900) then does your statement still stand? If you disagree then please explain this in the context of the other emulators/game engines that seem to be going around without issue.

(Wellcome to the dark side... )

I think it won't be illegal to copy levels from Iphone to N900 if you own both, but posting the levels in here may be bad..

Also, the creators of Angry Birds (afaik) have already said that a "Level Editor" would be available, so i don't think this would be a big thing..

Thanks Nuno for the common sense.

I guess I'll have to make some time and get this working - post the video on YouTube and then see who's interested :)

I'm glad you will understand on this, as Rol said the extra levels are to be paid for, so if you buy them for personal use and rip them for yourself, then thats thats up to you, but after discussing it with setter, we feel it wouldn't be a good idea to discuss the method, or host the files here, as this would be teaching others how to crack the apps themselves, its to close to warez for our comfort, sorry.

Please do have in mind that this is my personal opinion, and it doesn't state the forum's admin/mod team opinion.

Regarding this, i think that Rovio's devs will/are porting Iphone's levels to N900..
Why don't you try to have a chat with them? As far as i've seen, they're pretty accessible, and it's worthy!

Nuno bro, think we replied at the same time, but we've decided this is to close to cracking so have had to shut it down
