lols. I always think of putting Symbian devices in the highlights of this forum as the site name is Symbian-Freak.

Anyway thanks for all the replies, especially to those who are not symbian users.

don't fret it bro. You did nothing wrong. You can asked anything, you can see from the positive respond you get here.
So, carry on. Tell us what you want/expect for your new phone.
p/s, you can reach here also by using this url http://www.mobility-freak.com/forum

Thanks bro but two people here said "this is a symbian forum" so I immediately apologized thinking that I "offended" them for inquiring on non-symbian phone or I violated any rules here. But anyway, I was impressed with the specs of Samsung Galaxy S and HTC Desire and I really want to try the much-hyped Android. This is the reason why I am planning to get either of the two. As for my needs or requirements, not so much.

OK, since you won't actually tell me whats important to you in a handset here are some key differences that might help you decide:

The GS screen is out of sight better than the Desire, not just for blacks/contrast/brightness/sunlight legibility/size, but also for having true multitouch and a better touch response. The multitouch is especially important if you like gaming at all.

The GS has perfect sound quality, matched only by the iPhone 4 at present, significantly better than the Desire. Its loudspeaker is also considerably better. Its codec support for audio and video is better, and it has TV Out and DLNA capabilities (basically as a media player it trumps the Desire every which way you look).

It has a better GPU, 90m triangles/sec Vs ~22m/sec for the Desire. If HQ gaming is important to you then the GS is the better choice.

It has better battery life, by a reasonable margin too.

If none of those things are important to you then the Desire is probably a better choice.

The Desire is a great phone, I still like mine (even though the missus uses it now). For many I think its a fine choice, but for me the GS eclipses the Desire.

I only just noticed the new Desire Z and Desire HD have 2nd generation snapdragon chipsets.

The gpu core is twice as fast and video codec support is beefed up. The SOC should run cooler/less power consumption since its made on .045 process.

Compares better now to Samsungs own SOC on the Galaxy S.
