Hi, i have recently bought a Nokia N80 off somebody and it seems pretty kool although it has a older firmware on it than the ones currently out which is a shame and id like to get sorted but my question is about the F-Secure av software that is on it and can anyone tell me does this software slow the mobile down a lot? i have found that it can be pretty slow at starting some features of the phone and i wondered if it would be the av software causing this.
I can live without the av software if i was able to scan for viruses on my pc, can this be done? i tried doin a scan from my computer when the nokia drives apper but my kaspersky software doesnt seem to see the nokia drives on my pc to scan
also i seen on nokia's website that you can download some av software and other software as updates for the phone and they come with sis extentions. I know these are the installation files but if i didn't have av software on the phone, i know my av software on my pc will scan these if i right click on them and click scan, but does the av software scan these properly for viruses and if there is one in a package will it find them?
Any help would be welcome
James

You see, virus for the phone is rare and its hard to get infected...Usually these files may be inside cracked apps or games, and otherwise inside sis files. So if u are carefula and make sure u ont install trusted software, you only then will get a virus! For example do not install a file that has come to your phone by bluetooth and u dont know how.Dont accept files via bluetooth if u dont know who is sending it to you.And if u think the AV is slowing down the phone, just remove it in my opinion...And also do a format on the phone 1ce so that it becomes fresh! then start using it...thats my opinion

3650 -> 6600 -> N-gage QD -> 6630 -> N70 -> N80 -> N95 8GB -> Nexus One -> EVO 4G -> Motorola Photon

It really depends on you skills, knowledge and way of using your phone as well as you are related to illegal or legal soft.
However I have Symbian phone since first models of 7650 and I have newer been affected by the nay kind of worm or virus and I guess that I don?t have to mention that I have probably tried out almost every available file for s60 platform on the net
Symbian is very secure platform even without this security shi** introduced with 3rd edition and its really hard to infect your phone, you have to do few stupid mistakes in series infect it.
Last but not the least considering that you have 3rd edition phone its simply impossible and therefore simply forget it, and don?t waste your time and money, it will only slows down your phone.
Hope that helps,
Apoc

the only way u can get viruses (i believe):
-Warez(i admit to have downloaded games THAT I BOUGHT...noone will loose money due to that, and i wont buy a QD just for hotswapping games)
(p.s. @ some ppl : DO NOT EVEN GET THE IDEA TO ASK ME FOR ANY N-GAGE GAMES! BUY THEM! u can only play online with original games too

-bluetooth (someone send me comwarrior once

-MMS?(never had mms on my phone...inet here to slow)
especially 3. edition doesnt need it... enjoy ur phone
i personally have never had a virus on my phone.
only once i received comwarrior over bluetooth and just had to laugh xD

good choice, its really not needed on 2nd edition symbian, and definetly not on 3rd edition symbian, as there simply is NOT any virus
