Apple Introduces the iPhone!
What is so great about?
After numerous fake photos, information and specification, phone that everyone has been yearning for a years, famous and long awaited iPhone is released and I just can’t find what is so great about. I know, it hasn’t anything wit Symbian or with this site directly but as the real freak I just have to say something about new player in the Smartphone World.
Anyway, after detailed overview of the specifications and features I just can’t find anything amazing in it, what is so great about?! Design!? Yeah I have to admit that it looks nice but who really care about?!? Features before all, it is our rule No.1 isn't it, size, weight, height, width or even price are almost completely irrelevant facts.
OK, screen is large and nice, resolution is awesome but stretched over the 3,5” screens doesn’t looks so impressive IMO, anyway its undoubtedly great screen. You see there are Sharp phones with VGA screens so from this point of view there isn’t anything revolutionary?!!!
Storage? OK, 4 or 8 GB sounds impressive, respect it but there are already phones with same or even larger capacity, Nokia has introduce such a phone long time ago?
The iPhone is a quad-band GSM device with EDGE support. Unfortunately, there is no 3G/WCDMA support and it also lacks HSDPA of course, which would have been expected of a device being touted as ‘revolutionary’?
How about keypad?! For what purpose you’ll use phone without keypad!? Are you really, really ready to use such a phone in a daily life? OK its nice to try out these touch screen things, but after few days you’ll miss the keypad a lot.

I have huge experience with touch screens on Nokia S90 devices as well as on UIQ phones and believe me it’s the terrible solution that can’t be replacement for standard numeric keypad. SE knows that and therefore all UIQ phones beside the touch screen also features the keypad and its great that phone support both input methods. Believe me or not, using the phone that features only touch screen will become quite difficult and annoying in very short amount of time, at least I personally prefer one hand input.
So, in short I have few doubts and question and I would like if someone can answer on some of them and tell me what is so great about.
- How about connectivity options!? EDGE!? How about 3g!? Or HSDPA!?
- How about imaging!? Crappy 2mpx camera that lacks flash and auto focus!?
- How about optic!? Photo quality!?
- How about video recording quality!? How about for factor!? Classic monoblock that lacks keypad and features large unprotected screen?!
- How abut signal reception, call quality and other cell related features?! This is their first cell phone I’m not very optimistic about?!
- How about miniUSB or TV out?
- How about GPS with downloadable maps free of charge!?
- How about the 2nd camera?
- How about stereo speakers!?
- How about installable 3rd party application and games?
- How about dedicated camera and multimedia keys, I mean is it possible to control music while the phone is in your pocket?
- And so on, and so on
So, please, please tell me what is so great about!? IMO this is just another addition in mid range Smartphone portfolio. OK it looks nice and it has great screen but that’s all about in my personal opinion.
Last but not less important, phone is supposed to be available in June for USA markets while the Europe has to wait until the end of 2007 and Christmas sales, and Japan si prolonged until 2008. There is no doubt that there'll be much better phones announced until then, actually there are already incomparable better phones.
I leave the weirdest thing for the end! iPhone is not a Smartphone, despite oodles of functionality!!!! By some latest reports it seams that users will not actually be able to install any applications! Sure, it can handle the internet with Safari, music and videos with iTunes, and Office things with Documents To Go, but what if you wanted to insert your own games or something? No such luck, apparently. In my personal opinion the most defining factor of a Smartphone (apart from the multitasking) is the ability to extend features and possibilities with 3rd party applications, and the iPhone does not have this ability (or so it seems).
Long life to Symbian, if this is the best what Apple can produce than there is no doubt that Symbian will stay as leader for a very long time. This phone is completely inferior to Nokia flagship phone, famous Nokia N95 in every single detail beside the screen.
However its juts my opinion and I truly want to hear what you think about, but please don’t tell me its awesome without a single argument?! Please join our discussion and I’m really curious about other opinions.. .. .
