+ Technology: noBounds - full HD video over USB or WLAN!

15 March 2008

noBounds blast Smartphones display bounds!!

Small, two-three inch displays that are common to mobile devices such as cell phones are barriers to growth of exciting mobility markets, because they limit the user viewing experience.

All major mobile manufactures mobile operators, content providers, and consumer after all looking for the solution that will eliminate this bottleneck and liberate visual content from the tiny screens of our mobile devices.

For years we've been promised micro-projectors with the size of a sugar cube, even unbelievable iris nano projectors but none have materialised onto the market.

Now there is an another promising technology, people over at Nokia Research Labs always finding the new ways to surprise us and to make amazing things to happen and now they brought info about the so-called noBounds project that promises full HD video out over USB or WLAN from your mobile device.

The project aims to let you pair your Smartphone or handheld up with virtually any type of display, and deliver full HD video at 30 frames per second over USB or WLAN. Technology is very battery friendly and also would work either with displays with a built-in USB or WLAN connection, or any other display with the addition of a dongle.

There's no indication as to when we might see such a system implemented on a mobile phone but it is really nice to see that we’ll get the rid of the crappy QVGA/VGA TV out soon or later.

Sure the whole thing is tested and developed for the Maemo platform and Nokia Internet tablets and it seems that noBounds is just a software solution that could be easily implemented in the current Nokia Internet Tablets (N8XX)
