+ Firefox Mobile Concept Video Looks promising!

12 June 2008

Mozilla shows off Firefox Mobile concept!

Firefox MobileWell, that was a few months back, in October, we've wrote about quite intriguing interview with Mozilla Foundation CEO Mitchell Baker on the state of mobile web browsers and Mozilla's plans to develop a mobile version of Firefox.

Than came Harry Li's with disappointing post on the Forum Nokia Blogs with info that porting Mozilla platform onto Symbian OS will be a huge project which needs lots of hours, especially for those mobile developers with little Mozilla hacking experiences.

Anyway, after the pretty long period without any news about the upcoming Firefox mobile version we just got an intrenstin video demo which shows how it might looks like?!?

User experience is the most important aspect of having a compelling mobile product. Every bit of interaction and pixel of presentation counts when typing is laborious and screen sizes are minuscule. Many of the standard interaction models, like menus, always-present chrome, and having a cursor, don’t necessarily make sense on mobile. It’s a wickedly exciting opportunity but there are myriad challenges to getting it right.

One avenue for exploring this opportunity is through Mozilla Labs, which is about pushing the envelope towards better and brighter interaction horizons, as well as incorporating a winder community into the innovation process. This concept video explains one direction we are thinking in, and we’d love to inspire participation in thinking about other directions.

I am really curious how the mobile version of the Firefox would stack up to Opera Mini , and especially Skyfire, its cloned and improved version, or to other big players like the great Safari based browser forced by Apple and Nokia and offers the best mobile browsing experience nowadays.

From other hand the desktop version of the Firefox has lot of users and most of them are so called power users and when it comes time to choose a mobile browser they’ll probably choose the portable version of its favorite desktop solution?
